i guess i'll just go with black & white

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) <<<super ooooold!!! silent!
    Double Indemnity (1944)
    The Big Sleep (1946)
    Sunset Boulevard (1950)
The Night of the Hunter (1955)
    Nights of Cabiria (1957)
    Touch of Evil (1958)
    Pickpocket (1959)
    The Apartment (1960)
    Jules and Jim (1962)
    Knife in the Water (1962)
    The Trial (1962)
    Lolita (1962)
    8 1/2 (1963)

    apparently 1962 ruled

    Fuck Yea! Awesome movies!

The best black & white movie I've seen in a really, really, really long time is John Cassavetes' "Faces."

At this point it's silly to discriminate classic movies that were made in color. I thought 'black & white only' would make the listing more manageable but absence of color is unimportant. Classic is Classic!

POLL IDEA: Best Black & White Movie EVER

Just saw & loved A Woman Under the Influence! The similarities between that & Faces are very interesting. If I had to choose, I'd say that A Woman Under the Influence was probably the better movie in its somehow-seemingly familiar and special type of sadness. I feel like Faces might feature more picturesque camera-work but the imagery in both is a real pleasure to view and very fondly remembered.
