    Midterm Voting...

Post  The Rebirth on Tue Aug 24, 2010 8:38 pm

Did everyone vote today? They always mess up my party affiliation, but I was able to vote in the Republican primaries. Which was neat. Unfortunately, Rick Scott won Citrus County by a bit. Also, the incumbent candidates for county commission were defeated...

I, for one, never intended to give the impression that I care about politics. Happy Matt

instead of all the candidate signs, they should just have signs saying "DAY X IS VOTING DAY" so that people know when that is.

YES! That means I get a "I'm the Only One Allowed to Talk Politics" Card for the next two months right, since I'm the only one that participates rather than just complain? Don't forget about November!!!!!!!!!!!

public officials in the U.S. enjoy a 95%+ reelection rate!

participation is pretty irrational, unless you live in a swing state (like FL) and its time to send people to Washington.

Well if you had voted, like I did, you may have had a part in changing a statistic like that but since you didn't the statistic will stay the same. As for the county primaries, the two incumbents both lost in the race for County Commissioner.

I think saying something like that speaks volumes about what discourages people from voting. We talk a lot about changing things on these forums but where does change start? If you don't participate then whats the point of criticizing any part of government? It has to start somewhere right. It kills me that people feel that way...if we carry on feeling like that, then things will just stay the same. We need people like you to go out and vote Kyle, its important.

    I wish you had... :(

yeah, you're right for taking me to task here: I'm sold on the principle of "everything counts", and this is the perfect context in which to respect it.

but I'm actually very passionate about structural reform in this country, of a kind that'll make individual votes matter in every single election, and to that end I'm planning a career in politics focusing on democratizing our rules, like proportional representation, instant runoff voting, etc.

and I plan on starting a thread about that stuff very soon (probably to kick off the new politics board).
